I have an interesting story to tell. It is actually a true tale of a cargo ship called the Carroll A. Deering.
In fact none of the crew members aboard this cargo ship have ever been heard from or accounted for.
The captain of the Carroll A. Deering became ill shortly after leaving the port of Rio de Janeiro. The ship docks in Lewis Deleware where it is said he was too ill to continue. He and his son, also his first mate, stay behind.
A man named Charles Wormell, said to be a respected ship’s master is hired.
When the ship enters into Barbados to get supplies and for some shore leave Wormell’s first mate gets drunk and is jailed. Wormell bails him out and it is said that his first threatens to kill him.
Now let me remind you that this is an unsolved mystery. It becomes quite bizarre.
Something strange happens on its way back to Virginia. A lightship keeper in North Carolina, said that the ship had reported losing its anchors.
A ship spotted the Deering neer the Outer Banks the following day, stating it was a strange course for a ship on its way to Norfolk Virginia.
The following day a shipwreck was spotted. It took five days for the Coast Guard and investigators to board the ship due to harsh weather conditions.
When the ship was boarded they found food laid out as if they had been getting ready for a meal, but the personal belongings and the lifeboats were missing.
The theory of piracy and mutany have been discounted.
What do you think happened?
Could this possibly be a story you could spin a tale from?
